Inspirational TV shows to boost your motivation RIGHT NOW

Watching fitness related documentaries, TV shows, success stories is one of the biggest motivational activities. Plus, it’s so easy, right? Just one hour of your time, while you’re having dinner, or before going to sleep.

Below is a collection of my favourites, and if there are more out there that I don’t know of, please share them in the comments!

Extreme Weight Loss

Of course, Chris Powell’s Extreme Weight Loss had to make it to the list. The format is simple: one year, one personal trainer, a team of nutritionists, doctors etc. to change dramatically a person’s lifestyle for good. What I love about this show is the extent to which people drastically change ALL their unhealthy habits, and the results are incredible. These people successfully lost the equivalent of an average person in bodyweight, and watching the journey with all the changes, the pain, the sacrifices, the suffering, the feeling of not being able to make it, and the results are the end, is simply astonishing. It makes me think: these people lost over 80 kg in a year and I cannot lose 10? Come on Giulia, come on.

Here’s a link to a couple of my favourite episodes:

Fit to fat to fit

”Fit to fat to fit” is probably my favourite of them all. It all started with health and fitness expert Drew Manning, a personal trainer who intentionally gained 75 pounds (about 35 kg) to better understand the struggle of his clients, and become a better trainer. In one simple word: a genius.

As I mentioned in one of my first articles, this is the first time in my life I am overweight. I grew and developed into a professional athlete in my teenager year, I used to believe I would never go out of shape (or start smoking). I was firmly convinced that staying in shape is not that big of a deal, and people struggling with weight were just lazy, with no self control or willpower. Oh, how things change when you’re on the other side. Fit people have absolutely NO idea of how hard it is to live overweight, the sense of shame, failure, and defeat that accompanies me every single day. It’s easy to say ‘then do something’ when you’re not experiencing it. This is why Fit to fat to fit is my favourite fitness show ever, because it goes beyond the ‘motivation, lifestyle change and fitness’ format to focus instead on the process of being in another person’s shoes. It teaches empathy, struggle, and overall, I do believe that trainers will be even better trainers once they’ve tried the struggle themselves. Just search ‘Fit to fat to fit’ on youtube and go with it!

World’s Strongest Men

This is not a show itself, more a thematic search. The Strongmen competition gained immense popularity in the last years, with athletes like Zydrunas Savickas, Hafthor Bjornsson, Eddie Hall, Brian Shaw etc etc impressing the world every year with their beyond human performances. Many of them hold several world record for the heaviest weight ever lifted in world’s history, such as Eddie Hall lifting 500 kg (500!! The equivalent of six average weight people) deadlift from the ground. Epic Strongmen moment.

With that said, watching anything related to the Strongmen competition boosts my motivation dramatically for how impressed I am with the results the human body can achieve, with extreme workout, diet, and consistency. These people can drag an airplane for 20 meters without blinking, lift cars, oaks, the equivalent of a person’s weight in a dumbbell with one arm… they are strong beyond imagination, and I honestly can’t imagine anything more heart-pumping than winning the title of strongest man in the world. Like, literally, there is no other person on earth as strong as you are.

Netflix documentary ‘Born Strong’, as well as any youtube video with Strongmen competition are one of my favourite before bed things to watch, especially Eddie Hall’s deadlift world record:

And a good summary of the main athletes in the competition:

And last but not least…

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Of course. Arny. You couldn’t miss the list.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is universally recognised as one of the most influential bodybuilders of all times. And yes, The Terminator.

He even has one of the most important fitness competitions in the entire world after his name: the Arnold Classics.

This man is a concentrate of willpower, motivation and badassness that it’s simply impossible not to feel inspired by his story, and his many motivational speeches. Public speeches such as Arnold’s rules of success are one of those video who will instantly make you wanna put on your training shoes and get the ass away from the couch.

Arnold had a goal, when he was sleeping on the floor of his local gym in Austria: to become the most famous bodybuilder of all times. And he did.

I could talk for hours about Arnold, but I’ll simply leave below some inspirational videos:

I know there are many more, tough these are the ones I watch on a regular basis.

Any more suggestions?
