Motivation makes miracles happen

Like this morning’s miracle: me waking up at 6:15 to go to the gym.

Trust me when I say that I am in no way, nor now or never, a morning person.

You know why Saturday is my favourite day? BECAUSE THERE IS NO MORNING ALARM. I almost convinced myself that Saturday mornings aren’t real, just like carbs: no, carbs don’t exist, trust me.

I can sleep anywhere, at any time. Once I fell asleep in a club, with bouncing music all around me. I sleep on planes, airport floors, rocks, beach, once I almost fell asleep while standing (I am not joking).

I am one of those people who wakes up super last second to go to work, and always rushes while prioritising the morning tasks according to what can be sacrificed for the sake of time.

This is why for me it was exceptional to wake up so early for a good, old style morning cardio session: I can’t believe I was capable of doing it!

The reason why I pushed myself to do it is because this week is so full of events I absolutely cannot skip, that I literally do not have a free evening to workout. Mornings are the only option, and once you start your workout routine, it’s physically and mentally ANNOYING to skip a workout.

I woke up at 6:15, after a quick coffee and a light breakfast I took my bike and cycled for 30 min to a gym near my office. Bonus points: it was POURING RAIN (hashtag #WinterInAmsterdam). At that point, I would not allow the rain to defeat me. I was completely drenched when I reached the gym, but the feeling after that morning cardio session and starting the day completely energised was priceless.

Also, I noticed that I went through the day with way more energies than what one extra hour of sleep might have given me.

My advice here is to resist the urge to close your eyes and sleep again, or, in my case, the fear that you won’t make it through the day because in that moment you feel exhausted. The headache will go away in less than 30 minutes, I promise.

I got out from the gym at 8:30, the sun was out, the rain stopped. I had an amazing day and never felt sleepy until later that night. I am seriously thinking to incorporate an early morning cardio workout on a more regular basis!

And you, what’s your favourite moment of the day to hit the gym?

  1. I’m the same, i would much prefer the extra time in bed! Well done for pushing yourself 🙂 I’m totally out of sync right now, but when i get myself back into exercises, i think i’ll try a lot harder to get out of bed early!
